Is Low Impact Exercise Effective For Weight Loss?

February 1, 2013 by Tawny Bailey Leave a Comment

Hi Everyone!

Low impact exercise, such as Pilates, is often thought to be less effective when it comes to fat loss benefits.

And with all of the ridiculously intense workouts on the scene (Insanity and Zumba) it’s no wonder you may feel this way too.

But, are high – impact workouts really the only way for you to burn fat and lose weight?

NO!

Despite what the TV infomercials are telling you, you DO NOT need to kill yourself with cardio to lose weight.

So many people are under the wrong assumption that when it comes to exercise, more is better…especially when they want quick results.

When it comes to intensity, less is more.

Exercise should be a compliment to your dietary changes when you are tying to lose weight. You should not increase the intensity of your exercise in hopes of losing weight faster or better.

A moderate approach to exercise is always better for a number of reasons:

  1. You will stick with it  because the exercise won’t be dreadful and difficult to get through
  2. Because you will be able to stick with it, you will see steady, consistent results
  3. You will experience increased energy – not feel run down

So if you are a person who has to do low impact exercise for one reason or another, you can rest assured that your efforts are not in vain and you most definitely WILL see results.

When done correctly, Pilates is a great way to slim down and tone up.

Never forget that consistency is the key to success!

Tawny 😉
